ABOUT

Hi I’m Carla, a Myotherapist.

My practice is motivated by the idea that tension, pain, trauma and chronic health issues can present themselves in the musculoskeletal system, as a result of an overloaded/overstimulated nervous system.

My interest in the body centres around the relationship between the nervous system and tensions or conditions that may stem from imbalances.

Working with that notion, I seek to build a trusted bond between myself and my clients, where the components of connection and touch through massage can facilitate energetic change in the nervous system. In turn, this can encourage the body and its musculoskeletal system to settle and enter a state in which the body can resume its natural healing processes.

How I can help you….

  • Joint mobilisation:

This group of techniques aims to reduce limited range, 'jamming' & 'locking up' within a joint. This is not a 'cracking' or Manipulation, but is a technique that brings the joint to any restriction found in its range of movement and mobilised, creating more synovial fluid within the joint. This will help to reduce any inflammation in the joint capsule, or around, as well as 'lubricate' the joint to assist with ease of movement.

  • Muscle energy technique (MET):

a technique which is often pain or discomfort free. It aims to locate the 'point of restriction' in a muscle as we passively move it through its range of movement, and then activating the tissue and its neural pathways, encouraging it to 'reset' on a cellular level so that the muscle tissue can properly contract and relax without restriction or dysfunction.

  • Deep tissue work:

muscle lengthening techniques to work through points of tension and hypertonicity in the body soft tissues

  • Increase range of motion:

assist with increasing movement limitations

  • Assistance post surgery:

to surrounding tissue that may carry tension or pain. As well as reducing restrictions caused by developing scar tissue.

  • Reduction of general tension, pain or muscular compensation:

that may result from nervous system imbalances such as trauma, stress/anxiety or overstimulation

  • Supportive techniques used to supplement treatments:

This can include rigid taping for stability and kinesio taping for reduction of pressure on joints, etc

  • Myofascial release to support the connective tissues of the body.

I would love to work with you, and support you through your journey of health and wellbeing.
